Remarks will be given at 6 p.m. The open house event will be celebrated during First Friday Art Walk. The new station features the scale model of the Washburn University president’s residence designed and built by Willa Dean and Jack Holzmeister. When the Holzmeisters moved to Presbyterian Manor they wanted the model home moved to a place where it would be protected and used for education and gave the miniature structure to Washburn’s President and Mrs. Jerry Farley. In 2008 the model home was given to the Mulvane Art Museum. Visitors to the ArtLab can view the inside of the model home and have the opportunity to learn about scale and architecture through hands-on activities.
The Mulvane is also featuring works by 33 Washburn University students for the 2010 student art show. The students take the responsibility for installing their works in the Museum and producing wall labels. The exhibit gives the students and community an opportunity to see these works in a professional setting. Juror for the exhibit was Royce Smith, Assistant Professor of Art History at Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas. The exhibit features 50 works in a variety of media including: painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, printmaking, sculpture, glass, graphic design and mixed media.
