Alice C Sabatini Gallery - Topeka & Shawnee County Library: The Altered Book Festival continues, featuring Altered Books by library staff and community. These are books that have reached the end of their life as books (missing pages, obsolete information, broken bindings, etc.), and have been recycled and changed using any artistic media that inspires the artist. Altered Books are on display through November 7. NEW “Call of Duty – Kansas and World War II”
A historic look at the Kansas experience during World War II, from the Pacific, to Europe, to the Home Front. Special Event: November 9, 11:00 – 1:00: USO Canteen, with refreshments in the Alice C. Sabatini Gallery. Plan ahead for the December First Friday: December 2, 6 – 8 pm: USO Dance - Swing dancing in the library rotunda- fun!
Artist Collection & Custom Framing- Fleming Place, 4039 SW 10th Celebrating Kansas' 150th, Artist Collection & Custom Framing is pleased to feature the largest collection of Flint Hills and Kansas photography in the area. Photo artists include John D. Morrison, Wayne Rhodus, Jim Richardson, Brad Mangas, T. Anne Smith, Susan Dunnaway, Douglas Buhler, James Nedresky, William Utech, George Jerkovich and several others.
Beauchamp’s Gallery – 3113 SW Huntoon: Beauchamp’s will be opening a new exhibit – “Sudlow: Landscapes & Surprises” featuring 17 oil on canvas paintings as well as a number of works on paper.
The Collective Art Gallery - 3121 SW Huntoon "Chairs and Such" is the title of the next exhibit at the Collective Art Gallery. It opens on November 4 during the First Friday Art Walk at 5:30PM! Our featured artist this month is Beth Neuer a founding member of The Collective. Brought about by a decision to move, these works "helped...make transitions during that time. The chairs represent something structural and spiritual...memories wrapped around them and in them."

Glass Expressions- 1250 SW Oakley Glass Expressions will participate in the Nov. Art Walk. We will be show the blown solid glass snowmen from Thames and Vitrix Studios. There are many different Characters in the group. Also Glass Expressions will have a trunk show of Cecilia Labora’s lampwork bead jewelry. Legacy Community Arts Center - 1315 SW 6th Avenue, located at 6th and Lane with the entrance on Lane Street: have paintings in Pastel, Oil, Water/color, and acrylic by staff and students for FFAW.
Mulvane Art Museum - Washburn University: Now through November 6: “Treasures from our Collection” featuring pieces from the Mulvane’s permanent collection that have been brought out just in time for fall! Come see pieces that have not been seen for a while! ***Reminder: The galleries will be closed November 7-February 13 for HVAC replacement- so stop in to say hello tonight! ***
Soho Interiors - Westboro Mart, 3129 SW Huntoon: Be sure to grab an espresso at the new Soho Espresso bar while browsing! Soho Interiors is proud to feature acrylics by Jennifer Irwin, a native Topekan and student of interior design at Johnson County Community College. Whether drawing floor plans and choosing fabric or painting a still life, art comes naturally to Irwin. Member of IDSA and student member of ASID, Jennifer is interning through the Fall at Soho and would be happy to share her advice! Also on display, oil by Stella Robbins, photography by Brandy Eckhardt, mixed media by Traci Osborn and watercolor by Bobbie Rieger.
Topeka High School, New exhibit: "Story Tellers" will be available for viewing this evening from 5:00-7:00. Visitors please use the doors on Western Street. Topeka High Historic gallery is located on the 3rd floor. This show includes work from all the Art Classes offered at Topeka High. All art students worked under the unified theme of "Story Tellers" using all interpretations and mediums.
The Woodward Inns, 1272 SW Fillmore The Woodward Inn, long ago named "Topeka's Most Artistic Home" will feature the Grand Re-Opening 17th Anniversary Open House. After being battered by the May hail storm, The Woodward is proud to feature the extensive exterior renovations including new tile roof in reds and browns, new awnings, gothic street lamps and lion's head urns. New interior enhancements will also be displayed.
The NEW Woodward Max Gallery will feature the art of Edward Balda, an accomplished artist and instructor known for his creativity, distinctive style and thought provoking subject matter. His current portfolio focuses on oil and acrylic paintings. His landscapes and abstracts combine tropical themes from his Ecuadorian heritage. Edward's work is described as "calculated and graceful, but unpretentious."

Art Guild Gallery- Fairlawn Plaza, 21st & Fairlawn We know you have a lot of First Friday choices and we'd LOVE for you to make Topeka Art Guild at Fairlawn Plaza your first stop this Friday. We open Kansans Paint Kansas where Kansas artists have entered a juried show by Judith Mackey for great prizes. We will also have fabulous floral arrangements by Topeka's Floral Art Club of Topeka and melodious music by Fred Applehanz plus free food and wine. Randy Austin is our Honorary Chair.
BA Designs, 4119 SW Southgate Drive "Two from Texas" BA Designs has extended family traveling from Texas, hauling with them a truck load of amazing art and photography just for this special exent. Mary and David Bechtol are connected to Topeka by their daughter, Paula Craig and her husband "H" Craig. With a push, pull and explosion of color, Mary creates inspiring landscapes. Mary is in partnership with husband David as he creates with camera, capturing scenic landscapes of the southwest and foreign locations. Both Mary and David show at a number of Galleries in Texas and New Mexico.
SouthWind Gallery - 3074 SW 29th: Southwind Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibit: Escapes: Urban, Land & Sky, features new works by pastel artist Michael Duane, and introduces to the Topeka community, the work of Allan Chow, an accomplished oil painter. Opening activities include painting demonstrations by the artists and an Artists’ Reception from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Blue Planet Café, 110 SE 8 Poetry Hootenanny! Celebrate Matt Porubsky's book release with some fine poets who happen to be his pals: Denise Low, William Sheldon, Eric McHenry, Kevin Rabas, Leah Sewell, Mary Stone Dockery, Jeff Tigchelaar, Jason Wesco, Serina Allison Hern and Brian Daldorph. And you'll have a chance to win a gallon of Porubsky's Hot Pickles! Also on show will be the art work from Matt's book, Fire Mobile, by Stella Robbins.
Brown vs Board of Education Historic Site 1515 SE Monroe Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with an exhibit featuring local artists on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011. “From Mexico to America: Through the Eyes of Kansas Artists” features local artists Joey Rocha and Andy Valdivia and depicts stories of migration from Mexico to Topeka. Artists will be onsite during the Artwalks to discuss their works and the stories that inspired them. The exhibit is free and open to the public daily from Oct. 7 to Nov. 30. The site is closed Thanksgiving Day. The exhibition is sponsored by the National Park Service and the Brown Foundation for Educational Equity, Excellence and Research. The Eclective - 900 N Kansas Ave. Core The Eclective will be hosting the Nov. First Friday Artwalk from 5-9 with Feature Artists Justin & Bailey Marable, and Frank Shopen. We will have Published Author Eric McHenry signing his new children's book "Mommy Daddy Evan Sage." It is also Public Voting Time for our "Are You Out of Your Gourd?" Contest. All Gourds entered into the contest will be up for Auction. All proceeds will be donated to the Winner's Choice of Charity! LIVE Entertainment will begin at 5:30 with "Inferior Sea," an alternative/indie rock band.
First Presbyterian Church, 817 Harrison, “Seeing the Savior: Images from the Life of Christ” From the Annunciation to his Second Coming, 35 insightful and colorful interpretations of the Birth, Ministry, Passion, Ascension, and Return of our Lord are masterfully portrayed by thirteen artists from a variety of artistic and ethnic backgrounds. This show was curated by Sandra Bowden. It features the work of Laura James, New York artist of Antiguan heritage; Viera Hlonikova, from Slovakia; Rudolph Bostic, an African American Outsider Artist from Georgia; Sadao Watanabe from Japan; along with several well-known CIVA (Christians in the Visual Arts) artists.

Staci Dawn is a local Topeka artist who is inspired by the inner spirit that lives within us all and binds us together. Her art is the expression of you, me, and all the loop-holes we must endure in this journey to appreciate something beautiful-life. Lynn Ledbetter has hand carved and painted gourds at great prices. Two Days Monthly Market – 824 N Kansas Ave: New dealers are added again this month: Angela Broadhead and Erin Hatton-Landwehr join the group at TWO DAYS. In the Gallery Room photography by Laura Dalrymple with her showing of "Tribal Women of Northern Thailand" is featured, as well as Native American photographs by Jack Cobos. The Upstage Gallery - 720 SW Jackson, Historic Jayhawk Theater: "Creations of Hope" An exhibit of artists experiencing mental illness. The Upstage Gallery is hosting this annual art exhibit in conjunction with valeo and their art therapy program. Exhibit supports and validates the need for mental disorder awareness by bringing these artists into the local art scene. On display are more than 70 works by artists with photography, watercolor, oils, acrylics, prints, ceramics, art glass, and mixed media represented. Gallery will be open for Friday Artwalk from 5-8pm
