This March, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts Regional Exhibition will return to the bemisUNDERGROUND. In its second year, the exhibition has expanded eligibility to include artists living or working within 200 miles of Omaha, NE. The three award-winners will receive a $500 Juror's Prize and a 2013 Exhibition in the Bemis Underground.

The Bemis Center launched this exhibition to highlight new talent and perspectives and to establish new connections across contemporary art practices within the region. Expanding the Bemis Center’s mission to support exceptional talent, this exhibition provides the opportunity for emerging artists to present their work alongside mid-career and established artists in the cultural hub of Nebraska’s contemporary arts community.

IMPORTANT DATES

Deadline for Submissions: Saturday, January 21
Jury Result Announcement: Saturday, February 4
Exhibition Opening: Friday, March 2, 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Juror's Gallery Talk: Saturday, March 3, 12 noon

TO APPLY

Artists within 200 miles of Omaha, NE (including Kansas City, MO, Lawrence, KS, Des Moines, IA and Sioux Falls, SD) must visit https://bemis.slideroom.com/ and register for a Slideroom account. The application fee is $15 and is non-refundable. Applicants are allowed up to 4 uploads for their submission. Along with your submission, include details for each file uploaded (title of work, date executed, media and dimensions). If necessary, add a brief narrative to inform the juror about each individual work. Entries must be submitted online no later than Saturday, January 21

ABOUT THE JUROR

Shannon Stratton is a founder and current Executive and Creative Director of threewalls Chicago, IL, a not-for-profit residency and exhibition space. Founded in 2003, threewalls has grown from a start-up exhibition space to a vital visual arts organization that supports contemporary visual arts in Chicago through solo exhibitions for regional artists, residencies, grants to artists, publications, conferences and commissioning programs. In 2010, NewCity named Stratton one of the top 5 most vital people in the visual arts in Chicago. She was a 2011 fellow of the NAMAC Visual Arts Leadership Institute and a finalist for the Chicago Community Trust Emerging Leader Award. Stratton teaches in Art History, Theory & Criticism and Fiber & Material Studies departments at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.


The bemisUNDERGROUND is an integral part of the arts community in Omaha. The space provides regional artists exhibition opportunities and is dedicated to ongoing dialogues about contemporary art.
