Irma Wager creates stunning counted cross stitch pieces that vary from European landscapes to animals, flowers, city streets and beautiful women. Topeka Art Guild & Gallery (5331 SW 22nd Place - Fairlawn Mall): August brings a new exhibit by our talented local gallery members. Featured are 30 watercolors by the "Paint Along" group led by Lila Bartel. These artists celebrate five years of painting together in the TAG classroom. Transparent watercolor is known as a difficult medium. Come view their beautiful accomplishments. Also on exhibit are works by the guild's $1,000 scholarship winner Meridith Lewis of Seaman High School. Alice C. Sabatini Gallery, Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library (1515 SW 10th): Our summer exhibit "Across the Universe" is still on display but we've also opened a new exhibit. "People, Pride and Promise: The Story of the Dockum Sit-in" is a traveling exhibition commemorating the 60th anniversary of Wichita's Dockum Drugstore Sit-in, the first successful student-led lunch counter protests of the Civil Rights era. Then on Sunday August 11 from 5-7p, join us as we discover more about the Dockum Drugstore Sit-in from Dr. Galyn Vesey, one of the original sit-in participants. First Friday Artwalk hours are 9a-9p. Mulvane Art Museum, Washburn University (1700 SW Jewell): The count-down to the Mulvane Art Museum's 100th Anniversary has begun. "100 minus 5:  Variations in the Art of Printmaking," features a variety of prints from the past 95 years of our collection. "Endangered Art: A Reprise," highlights paintings from the museum's collection that are in need of conservation, or have recently been restored. In “Novel Art,” father & son artists, Michael Young and Ian Young, illustrate two novels:  "One Hundred Years of Solitude," by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and "Brave New World," by Aldous Huxley. Matryoshka Tattoo (918 N Kansas): For the month of August, we will feature art from the animals at the Topeka Zoo! The Topeka AAZK Chapter is a part of the American Association of Zoo Keepers. Through the sale of animal artwork we are able to raise funds to go towards different conservation efforts locally, and worldwide. Proceeds also purchase several thousand dollars worth of enrichment toys for our animals. Every purchase of animal art from our Etsy page, through Facebook or in person directly benefits animals and their habitats. Regular hours are Tues-Sat from 10a-8p.
