St. Mark's African Methodist Episcopal Church (801 NW Harrison): During the May First Friday Artwalk, we will be celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Brown v Topeka Board of Education decision on May 17, 1954. There will be a short program at 6p and a reception. St. Mark's African Methodist Episcopal Church is the home of Rev. Oliver L. and Linda Brown. First Friday Artwalk hours are 5-7p.

NexLynx Gallery (123 SW 6th, 2nd Floor): Celebrate our 100th Consecutive First Friday Art Walk with a special exhibit featuring selected pieces of artwork varying in photography, acrylics, mixed media and more from over 35 of our returning artist alumni. A special toast at 6pm by owner, Lee Ryan, thanking those who have helped us achieve this huge milestone. Live music by Kirk Drager from 5-7p. Snacks and drinks provided. Creations of Hope Gallery (727 S Kansas): Celebrate Mental Health Month with Creations of Hope. We will have interactive art and live music out front. The feature exhibit is the wood turning of Vaughn Graber. Vaughn states "The influence for making the wooden vessels is practically genetic. My father and his father before him were Master wood workers, carvers and woodturners employing old world skill to perfection. To create a unique piece takes imagination and skill and is personally satisfying. My art expresses my quest for exactness coupled with beauty of natural wood." First Friday Artwalk hours are 8-5. Reliant Apparel (631 S Kansas): We will showcase artists and offer t-shirt prints of digital artwork for artists and customers. Reliant Apparel will be participating in the artwalk in May and October of 2019 as well as February of 2020. FFAW hours are 5-8p.

Topeka Art Guild & Gallery (5331 SW 22nd Pl. - Fairlawn Plaza Mall): You will want to see these winning pieces of art in a variety of media in our spring juried show. Congratulations to: 1st place, Kathy Menzie, textile art; Jewell Wilhite, acrylic; 3rd, Charles Benton, photography. Honorable mentions: Lila Bartel, watercolor; Vicki Cunningham, oil; Doug Sheafor, blown glass; Steve Zimmerman, acrylic. Enter your name in a drawing for art by last years winner. Schools showing this month are Mater Dei and Most Pure Heart. Regular hours are Wed-Sat from 11a-5p and we are located on the west end of Fairlawn Mall. Great refreshments always on First Friday. SouthWind Art Gallery (3074 SW 29th): "Black and white creates a strange dreamscape that color never can." - Jack Antonoff Join us this May for free food, wine, and live entertainment at the opening for "Black & White!" This exhibit features over a dozen of our favorite artists and their monochromatic works. Artist Barbara Waterman-Peters will be doing a B&W painting demonstration at the opening, and the talented Luke Scheibmeir will once again provide live jazz and acoustic piano music. 39 West Gallery (909 N Kansas): May Bike Show featuring Guest Curator Sara O'Keeffe. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling - and encourage more folks to give biking a try. We are showcasing bike art for the month of May with artworks from Sara O'Keeffe, Elizabeth King, Meredith Fry, Kathy Menzie, Gretchen Hammond of Philadelphia, Kristine Luber and Daniel Sweet. Alice C. Sabatini Gallery, Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library (1515 SW 10th): This is your last week to see "Mix It Up!" Come and see the work of local artists Jordan E. Brooks, Barbara Waterman-Peters, Larry Peters, Audrey Leamon and Stephanie Munoz O-Neil, as well as many other amazing artists in "Mix It Up!" at the Sabatini Gallery until May 12. Glaciers Edge Winery (1636 SE 85th): Celebrate May at the winery. Frank Rardon will be our featured musical artist and Lago Vista Grill will have food available for purchase. Bondbons will have gourmet desserts for sale! Be sure to sample our newest release, Rock Slide Rose’ and enjoy wine and slushie by the pour or a bottle. Experience Kansas wine at our beautiful venue and watch the sunset from the porch or patio. Mulvane Art Museum (1700 SW College): Current exhibitions are the Washburn University Student Art exhibition (2nd floor) and Unpacking Chinese Apartment Art (entrance level). In the Rita Blitt Gallery, we invite you to enjoy Expressions of Freedom—an exhibition of drawings, collages, paintings and mixed media expressing the beauty of line and form. FFAW hours are 5-7p.

Wolfe's Camera (635 S Kansas): While downtown, come to Wolfe's to enjoy some chips and salsa. While snacking, walk through and view the grand opening of the photography gallery of the Shawnee Heights High School students. We have some great work showcased by these young talented artists. Shop around and get some Mother's Day gift ideas or pre-made gifts around $10. Hope to see you this First Friday!FFAW hours are 5-8p. 

Topeka High (800 Sw 10th): Stop by to see the last First Friday of the 2018/19 school year!!!  Student artwork will be on display from multiple media that is showcased at Topeka High.  Some students will be selling their artwork, so make sure to stop by to see amazing creative talent and maybe pick up some local pieces from up & coming artists.  Enter on the Western Street side and head up to the 3rd floor to see amazing work! SOHO Interiors (3129 SW Huntoon - Westboro Mart): Artist Robbie Lamoreux will be the special feature at SOHO Interiors this First Friday. Her show, "Kansas, Naturally. Observations in Watercolor" will be on display through May. Robbie naturally paints what she knows best. Surrounded by trees, hills, and wildflowers, Robbie's goal is to capture her love of nature in each of her paintings. Come experience with the artist the thrill of when colors and water merge on paper. You will want to see this exhibition as it is one that will inspire you. FFAW hours are 5:30-7:30p.

Stephen Smith Gallery (931 S Kansas): Alexis Balaun is a multi-disciplinary emerging artist in the Midwest. She has participated regionally and internationally in art exhibitions, performances and competitions. She attended Washburn University, receiving her BFA in general studio art this month (May, 2019). Her current body of work is influenced by her travels to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Alexis' exhibition "Reflections of Life"  addresses attention of the lasting impact of life and mementos left behind, regardless of one's intent. FFAW hours are 4:30-8p. STUDIO 831 (831 N Kansas): Maps & Metalscapes: A Look Back - The artist is giving us a glimpse of her work done circa 1979-80. At that time she was seeking a different way to express landscape elements and, like many artists, hit upon the grid. However, her aim was to remove all characteristics of landscape, including color, and reduce it to its simplest forms: horizontal, vertical, diagonal. By the mid-1980s she found yet another way to include landscape in her vocabulary of the grid: maps. FFAW hours are 4-8:30p.

Matryoshka Tattoo (918 N Kansas): Our featured artist for May is Chenoa Casebier (Casebier Photography).  Chenoa is a local photographer out of Osage City. She has been taking photos for many years, but in the last 5 years has enjoying developing her portfolio. She absolutely loves taking photos of all things, people, landscapes, weather, food & events just to name a few. This is a much loved hobby, she takes pride in her work & her interactions with clients. She loves working with people & helping people meet their photo needs & enjoys showing the world through her eyes. Regular hours are Tues-Sat from 10a-8p. FFAW hours are 10a-9p. Cyrus Hotel (920 S Kansas): Join us in beautiful Downtown Topeka for First Friday Live at Cyrus Hotel! Our courtyard bar will be open and we'll be featuring a pop up shop from Allie Kay Boutique, along with local art and a live musical performance.
