The Hi-Crest mural was created through a collaboration with neighborhood matriarch Betty and artist Jamie Colon.

The design references the state flag, Kansas landscape and a pair of girls jump-roping.

The mural was painted with the help of many volunteers on the old Avondale East Elementary School.

The building is now home to Net-Reach, Community Resources Council and other community organizations and serves as a community center for the neighborhood.

Site improvements were completed with assistance from Treanor Architects & Mars.

Improvements include:

  • new sign

  • landscaping

  • refinishing of the aluminum letters
