Downtown

Thanks to ongoing redevelopment efforts, a five-block stretch of S Kansas Avenue is now home to numerous pieces of new and existing public art. These include the works listed in this guide as well as several others - including bronze medallions, pocket parks and other enhancements.

NOTO Arts District

The arts scene is thriving in the NOTO Arts District with more than 3,000 people visiting during the ARTSConnect First Friday Artwalk each month. The district is home to art galleries, shops and restaurants. NOTO is the colorful heartbeat of North Topeka. More information can be found at www.exploreNOTO.org.

Kansas Statehouse

The Kansas statehouse is a work of art itself—and it is impossible to list them all here, but we have included some of the most significant works. The statehouse is open to the public Mon-Fri from 8a-5p and Sat from 8a-1p.

Topeka Mural Project

These works have all been coordinated by ArtsConnect and executed by a variety of artists and members of the community. More information about the Topeka Mural Project found here.

Utility Box Murals

In 2014, Safe Streets and the City of Topeka collaborated with artists from all across Topeka to beautify 14 of Topeka’s utility boxes. More information about these works of art can be found at www.safestreets.org.

Washburn University

The works that appear on the Washburn University campus represent a wide range of mediums and styles. The works listed on this map are a part of the university’s permanent collection, but don’t miss those pieces which are a part of an annually rotating collection.

Ichabods Around Town

In 2015 3-D Ichabods, the university’s mascot, were decorated by local and regional artists and installed across Topeka in honor of the 150th year of Washburn University.
