ArtWorks: Arts = Jobs

ArtsConnect released an economic impact survey of the city of Topeka in 2014. This analysis found that, in the city of Topeka, the nonprofit arts and culture industry generates $20.2 million in annual economic activity and supports 480 full-time equivalent jobs.

This activity generates $827,000 in direct revenue to the City of Topeka & $2,129,000 to the State of Kansas. The study also notes that 1 in 5 visitors to Topeka are attending arts-related events, and that these visitors spend nearly three times the amount of money on these activities that is spent by resident attendees.

This is all according to Arts & Economic Prosperity IV, a national economic impact study which was used along with local data to evaluate the impact of the arts in Topeka. The study was commissioned by ArtsConnect with generous support from WIBW. The data was analyzed by Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education using data collected from organizations and audience surveys taken in Topeka during the summer and fall of 2013.
